Vira-Asana: The Hero Pose
| Vira Asana : The Hero Pose | ||||
In Sanskrit word vira means hero, brave or eminent man, or warrior. The way a brave man takes position while attacking his enemy, the similar position is formed in this asana, hence it is called as Vira Asana or The Hero Posture "Place one foot on the opposite thigh and turn the other foot backwards, This is the Vira-asana" Gheranda-samhita II.17 "One foot is to be placed on the thigh of the opposite side; and so also the other foot on the opposite thigh. This is called Vira-asana" Hatha-yoga-pradipika I.23
