Ramdev Yoga for Hair Loss

Hair fall is a common problem across the globe. It is not just something that comes with old age; rather people from all age groups suffer from this problem. Studies reveal that 50% of all men and about 40% of women undergo massive hair loss sometime in their life. Most of the hair loss cases are related to genetics where an ancestor who had hair loss experience in their lifetime. According to Yoga guru Ramdev Baba, yoga cannot stop hair loss but it can accelerate the growth of hair in the areas where it has fallen. Acupressure (Nail rubbing), Some Yoga Asanas (Yoga Postures) and Pranayama (Breathing Exercises) definitely helps in hair growth.

Balyam : Nail rubbing for Hair Growth

One very common practice suggested by Baba Ramdev for hair growth is to run the nails of the hands against each other. Nail rubbing is an effective way to increase hair growth and cure hair fall. Nail rubbing for hair growth came into popularity when Baba Ramdev talked about its benefits and also shown the fantastic results.
Nail rubbing for hair regrowth is very simple, just fold your fingers of both the hands and place the finger nails against each other. Simply rub the nails against each other. It is advised to do nail rubbing for five to seven minutes twice a day. Nail rubbing can be done while standing or sitting as well. Baba Ramdev recommends doing nail rubbing just before sleeping and also do it in a way that sounds come from nail rubbing.
This enhances blood circulation in every part of the skull and hence accelerates hair growth. As per Baba Ramdev the reasons or rather the causes for hair loss are increasing levels of stress and anxiety, poor diet and poor blood circulation.

To Enhance Blood Circulation Baba Ramdev recommends few Yoga Poses to counter Hair Loss and increase Hair Growth:

  • Vajrasana | Thunderbolt Pose : The vajra-asana is a seated posture. Begin by sitting back on your heels and placing your knees, legs and feet together. Keeping the back straight place the palms of your hands down on top of your thights. Breath gently thorugh your nostrils and sit in this position for at least three minutes.

  • Pavanmuktasna | Wind Releasing Pose: Lie flat on the back in the shava-asana. Inhale and bend the right knee and pull it close to the torso with both hands while interlocking the fingers just below the knee. Keep the left leg flat on the floor. Hold the inhaled breath for a few seconds then exhale slowly through the nostrils and lift the back, shoulders and head off the floor and touch the knee with the forehead.

  • Sarvangasana | Shoulder Stand Pose: Lie flat on the back in the shava-asana. Inhale through the nostrils. Place the palms face-down on the floor. Keeping the hips on the floor, bend the knees and bring them up toward the stomach while exhaling. Inhale slowly through the nostrils, press down on the hands and lift the torso from the waist up off the floor, arching the spine backwards and straightening the arms.

  • Sirsh Asana | Headstand Pose : Put your yoga mat into a comer, kneel down in front of it and place your interlocked fingers in the comer close to the walls. Put your head into the hollow of the palms, rise off the knees and take a step or two towards the comer. Lift one leg and place it in the comer against the wall. Now, just kick the other leg up.

  • Ushtra Asana | Camel Pose : Sit up on the knees with the heels of the feet pressed against the buttocks and the calves of the legs flat on the floor. Reaching backward, grasp the left ankle with the left hand and right ankle with the right hand. Inhale through the nostrils and lift the buttocks off the legs arching the back and thrusting the abdomen forward and tilt the head as far back as possible.

  • Adho Mukha Svanasana | Downward Facing Dog Pose : Keep your legs shoulder width apart. Slowly, bend down, until your palms touch the floor ahead of you. Exhale while bending.  Do not lift your heels off the floor. Don't bend your knees, but at the same time, don't lock them. Spread your fingers wide apart. Now, push your head between your arms, towards your knees. Feel the stretch in your legs.

  • Uttanasana | Standing forward bend pose : Start in Tadasana/Mountain pose. Inhale as you raise your arms. As you exhale, engage your thighs, pull the belly in and up deep from the pelvic floor and bend forward, hinging from the hips. Place your hands/fingertips on the floor, in front of your feet or next to your feet, or hold onto the back of your ankles or calves.Keep your hips over your heels as you press your heels into the floor. Roll the top of your inner thighs slightly in. Let your head hang, keeping the neck relaxed. Lengthen your spine as you inhale. Soften deeper into the pose as you exhale.

Baba Ramdev’s recommends following Pranayama for hair loss :

  • Bhastrika Bhastrika Pranayama: Take deep breaths such that the air from your lungs and diaphragm are completely pushed out.
